IM BOARD IV – Halftone Def Show Decks

proper-gander-1

Chad Landenberger’s annual I’M BOARD series is one of our favorite art shows in the Jacksonville area. We grew up skating, and for most of our lives we have been interested in the art and culture that surrounds the sport. So when the opportunity came around for the fourth time, We were stoked to spend some time creating the decks pictured above for Halftone Def Studios, and I’M BOARD IV. Thanks to Chad and all the folks who made the event possible, it was a seriously great night with a heck-of-a-lot-a rad art.

Board Tomorrow? Come to I’m Board IV

imboard3

So this is my #2 Pencil Skateboard Deck from last years IM BOARD 3 show, which I gotta say was the best show yet and is gonna be hard to beat this year. Full Skate Demo, Break Dance Crews, and Rad Skate decks. I would love to show you my submission for this year’s show which is tomorrow during Art Walk, but my pics just wouldn’t do it justice so your gonna have to come see for yourself. I will tell you however, that it is somewhat along the same lines as the #2 Pencil from last year in that its not about the design on the deck but using the decks shape to make something else. Having designed decks for Flatline Skateboards for 7 years I’ve done my fair share of graphics on the board printing, and this is a little more challenging for me and a great opportunity for humor, which I love. Below are Grease’s Decks from last year as well -TRON

AIGA Summertime Poster – Tim Armstrong

AIGA Summertime Poster

Here’s my version two of my AIGA SUMMERTIME poster for the show this weekend at the Jacksonville Landing. I say version two because my first attempt was a stenciled type poster that didn’t go exactly as planned and then I totally ruined it trying to fix it so this is what I can up with the day before the poster was due. I have been dying to start doing Illustrations of old cars that I love and tying it into some new vector style with a little bit of that old “owners manual” style of design.

63 Impala63 Impala

I chose this song and car style because this summer my friend Ryan @autoline let me take this Fire Red 63 Impala with chrome spoke daytons for the weekend to the Turkey Rod Run in the Daytona Speedway and It pretty much made my summer. I don’t think I have ever been that excited to drive a car. I got up a 4 am just so I could drive it while the sun was coming up. @thecrobar and I were laid up in that thing like a couple of gangsters all weekend. The looks you get driving that thing around are pretty awesome and I almost bought it, but I would still rather have something with a little more muscle look than gangster. And I chose the song because thats the cd I listened to the whole time driving it. Tim Armstrong’s solo album “A Poets Life” is an awesome dub style cd, check it out if you have a chance or watch the video below and you’ll see the car inspiration. I also like that the song title was “Wake Up” because the people need to realize the 63′ is just as rad as a 64′.

Also, props to Jax AIGA | Patrick Carter | Thought & Theory for putting together this awesome event!

DEADWOOD Deck Set by Grease for IB3

Check out these new set of decks by Grease Himself entitled DEADWOOD for the IM BOARD 3 Skateboard Art show. Yeah these are another couple of Beasty prints from the people over at Zazzle.com. They came back a little darker than we had anticipated but they still looked great nonetheless and looked even better hanging up at the show. If you didn’t get a chance to go, visit eyeswideawake.com for links to all the photo sets (Set 1, Set 2, Set 3, Set 4) and a couple of videos. It was a wild show, Chad had a full on Redbull street course, DJ’s and a whole crew of Breakers throwin down. It’s gonna be hard to top the show next year. I did a couple of decks as well but they were last minute Ideas that were just stenciled straight on the Decks. But I had an excuse for the slackery because I designed and printed the show poster which I must say was a pretty cool concept. I really didn’t get the execution I originally had in mind nor was I able to print the posters in multiple colors but they did come out awesome! More on that later, for now check out the rest of the photos from the DEADWOOD Set and start wishin you had mad skills like Grease. TRON OUT!

Check out the Deadwood Flickr Set for more rad photos and angles of these big chinned bastards!

Partisan The Sea Pics from Night One

We killed two kegs in about two hours, sold some posters, watch the debates, heard some great DJs and live music and the crowd kept a moving all night. If anyone else has photos from the show, send us a link.

Check out Jeanne Ciasullo Flickr Set for more pics from night #1!

Partisan The Sea Poster Process on Our Flickr

Whole new batch of pics are posted over on the Halftone Def Studios flick photo sets. They are photos of pretty much the whole process from start to finish with the exception of the films and the sketches. You can see the ink mixing, screens, us printing them color by color, detail shots, The Rad 2 color stamps, us packing them up in tubes, and Grease in the bushes with crazy hands.
